The world is only a surface.

Shellscape is a short, hand-painted platformer about what's hiding underneath everything. Walk across a quiet meadow, find a crack in the ground, and pull. The whole world peels open like the shell it always was, and something else is waiting underneath.

You play as Pip, a small traveler who discovers that every surface,  the grass, the mountains, the sea,  is just the outer shell of something deeper. Peel back the meadow and find a glowing world of roots and buried water. Peel back the roots and find the core of everything.

Our take on the theme

We took "SHELL" literally, at the scale of an entire world. Every layer you walk on,  dirt, stone, water,  is a shell hiding another world underneath it. Progress in the game is the act of shelling something: finding a crack, prying it open, and stepping through into what it was protecting. Even the ending asks you the same question the theme does: do you want to see what's underneath the last shell?

Pretty clean art style, easy on the eyes. The player doesn't leave the ground when you jump, not sure if that's intentional.
